Grootschalige protesten zijn verder uitgebleven in China. Massale politie-inzet helpt. De echte uitkomst van wat er gebeurt, is als waterschade: je kunt de buitenkant weer opdrogen, maar nu zit er rot in. Het verlies aan politiek vertrouwen onder vooral de jongere generatie, die al zoveel uitdagingen had vanwege de banen- en vastgoedmarkten, is alleen maar verder geschaad. De resonantie van de protesten bij jonge Chinezen in binnen- en buitenland is veelzeggend. De Partij zal steeds vaker een harde(re) hand nodig hebben, wat het vertrouwen alleen nog maar verder zal doen afnemen.
